Dubai has a large number of CBSE schools, and Class 10 and Class 12 board exams are the same as in India. This guide explains how CBSE marks work and how to prepare, especially in Maths and Science.

How CBSE board marks work

  • Most subjects combine a board theory exam with internal assessment (periodic tests, practicals, projects) set by your school.
  • Board exams are held in February and March.
  • From 2026, Class 10 students can take a second, optional board exam to improve their scores in some subjects. Check the latest CBSE circulars for details.
  • Class 12 results matter for university admissions in India, the UAE and abroad.

The shift to competency-based questions

CBSE papers now include a large share of competency-based questions: case studies, source-based questions and assertion-reason items. These test whether you can apply a concept, not just repeat an NCERT example. Students who only practise textbook exercises often find these questions hardest.

Where students lose marks

  1. 1Case-study questions in Maths and Science where the concept is known but the setup isn't.
  2. 2Class 10 Maths: trigonometry, quadratic equations and word problems.
  3. 3Class 12 Maths: calculus (especially integration), probability and vectors.
  4. 4Physics numericals and Chemistry reaction mechanisms in Class 12.
  5. 5Presentation: missing steps that cost marks in a step-marked paper.

A plan for the board year

  • April to September: finish each chapter properly, including NCERT exemplar and case-study questions.
  • October to December: school pre-boards and sample papers under timed conditions.
  • January to February: CBSE sample papers and past board papers, then fix weak chapters.

Why online works for Dubai families

After-school timetables in Dubai are busy, and travel across the city takes time. Online one-to-one lessons fit around the UAE school week, and you get the same tutor every week without the drive.
