CBSE Class 10 board exam guide for Gulf students
Official sample papers and marking schemes for every main subject, plus what each paper looks like, where the marks are, and how to use the three hours. Then send us an attempt for a free review.
Two board exams
The main exam (around Feb–Mar) is compulsory. An optional second exam (around May) lets students improve up to three subjects, and the better score counts.
80 + 20 marks
Each main subject has an 80-mark, 3-hour board paper plus 20 marks of internal assessment from school.
Gulf exam timing
Papers usually begin at 10:30 am IST: 9:00 am in the UAE and Oman, 8:00 am in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. Practise full papers in the morning, and confirm the time on the admit card.

Paper pattern
- Section A: 18 MCQs + 2 assertion-reason questions (1 mark each, 20 marks)
- Section B: 5 very-short-answer questions (2 marks each)
- Section C: 6 short-answer questions (3 marks each)
- Section D: 4 long-answer questions (5 marks each)
- Section E: 3 case-study questions (4 marks each)
Where the 80 marks are
| Algebra | 20 |
| Geometry | 15 |
| Trigonometry | 12 |
| Statistics & Probability | 11 |
| Mensuration | 10 |
| Number Systems | 6 |
| Coordinate Geometry | 6 |

- Section A: 25 min
- Section B: 20 min
- Section C: 35 min
- Section D: 45 min
- Section E: 30 min
- Checking: 25 min
Where marks are won and lost
- Algebra and Geometry carry 35 of the 80 marks, so secure these chapters first.
- The marking scheme awards marks for each step. A correct final answer with no working can still lose marks in Sections C and D.
- Calculators are not allowed, so practise arithmetic by hand, including π = 22/7.
- Draw neat, labelled figures for geometry and heights-and-distances questions. The figure itself often carries marks.
- Choosing Basic Maths limits Maths options in Class 11. Confirm with your school before board registration.

| Effects of Current | 13 |
| Natural Phenomena (light) | 12 |

- Periodic Classification of Elements
- Evolution (Heredity itself is still examined)
- Electric motor, electromagnetic induction and electric generator
A 3-hour plan
- Biology section: 55 min
- Chemistry section: 55 min
- Physics section: 50 min
- Checking: 20 min
Where marks are won and lost
- Chemistry and Biology together carry 50 of the 80 marks.
- Balance every chemical equation. Unbalanced equations are a common reason for losing marks.
- Ray diagrams need arrows on rays and labelled points; Biology diagrams need clear labels.
- In numericals, write the formula, the substitution and the answer with its unit. Each step is marked.
- The topics above are taught in school but not tested in the board paper, so don't overspend revision time on them.

- Answer the sections in order, as CBSE's instructions recommend, so nothing gets skipped.
- Many Gulf students are stronger in spoken than written Hindi, so practise timed writing, not just reading.

Gulf tutoring questions
Do you tutor students across the Gulf?
Yes. All lessons are live, one-to-one and online, so we work with families throughout the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman — as well as internationally. You get a specialist tutor with no travel involved.
Which curricula do you cover in the Gulf?
We cover the British curriculum (GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level) that most Gulf international schools follow, the Indian CBSE curriculum, and admissions support including the SAT, TMUA, ESAT and TARA. Whatever your child's school follows, we can match a specialist.
What currency will I be charged in?
We show clear starting rates in AED, SAR and QAR so you always know where you stand. The exact plan is tailored to your child after a free trial lesson — with no payment for the trial.
How does the timezone work?
We schedule tutors around Gulf Standard Time (GST), including after-school and evening slots, so lessons fit your child's routine wherever you are in the Gulf.
Can one tutor support my whole family across different curricula?
Yes — and for globally-mobile Gulf families this is our biggest advantage. Instead of re-finding tutors when you move country or for each child, one provider covers every curriculum and stays with your family.
Where can CBSE Class 10 students in the Gulf get official sample papers?
CBSE publishes free sample question papers and marking schemes for every Class 10 subject on cbseacademic.nic.in, and previous years' board papers on cbse.gov.in. We link the official 2026-27 papers for Maths, Science, Social Science, English and Hindi directly on this page.
Do CBSE schools in the Gulf follow the same board exam?
Yes. CBSE-affiliated schools in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman follow the same Class 10 syllabus, question-paper design and marking scheme as schools in India.
What is the second CBSE Class 10 board exam?
CBSE now holds two Class 10 board exams. The main exam (around February–March) is compulsory, and an optional second exam (around May) lets students try to improve their score in up to three subjects, with the better result counting. Check cbse.gov.in for the official date sheet.
How does the free CBSE paper review work?
Your child attempts an official sample paper under timed, three-hour conditions and sends us photos or a scan on WhatsApp. A CBSE tutor marks it against the official marking scheme and explains where the marks were lost and what to fix first. It's free and there's no obligation.
