In short
NCEA (National Certificate of Educational Achievement) is New Zealand's main secondary qualification, run by NZQA at Levels 1, 2 and 3 (usually Years 11–13), and Level 3 is the basis for University Entrance. Each subject is built from standards, some assessed at school during the year and some in NZQA's end-of-year exams in November. Our one-to-one online NCEA tutoring starts from NZ$50 per hour, after a free trial lesson.

How NCEA works
NCEA is built from standards — some assessed at school during the year, some in the end-of-year exams — so we plan for both.
- NCEA is run by NZQA, the New Zealand Qualifications Authority, at Levels 1, 2 and 3.
- Each subject is made up of standards worth credits; some are internally assessed and some are external exams.
- Standards are graded Not Achieved, Achieved, Merit or Excellence.
- University Entrance needs NCEA Level 3 with 14 credits in each of three approved subjects, plus literacy and numeracy.
- Universities rank applicants on their best Level 3 credits, so Merit and Excellence grades matter.
- The government has announced NCEA will be replaced by new qualifications later this decade — we track the changes and teach to the standards your cohort sits.

NCEA tutoring questions
Do you tutor NCEA online?
Yes. All lessons are live, one-to-one and online, so we work with students across New Zealand — Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton and beyond.
Which NCEA subjects do you tutor?
Mathematics, Calculus and Statistics at Levels 1–3, plus Science, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and NZ Scholarship Calculus and Physics. We also support the numeracy co-requisite.
Do you help with internal assessments?
Yes — we teach the skills each internal standard tests and give feedback on practice tasks. We don't complete assessed work for students; it has to be their own.
Can you help my child get Merit or Excellence?
That's where we focus. Merit and Excellence reward deeper reasoning and clear communication, so lessons build both the maths and the way answers are written.
Is NCEA changing?
Yes. The government has announced new qualifications to replace NCEA over the next few years. At the free trial we confirm your year group and which standards your cohort sits, and teach to those.
How much does an NCEA tutor cost?
Lessons start from NZ$50 per hour for Level 1 and NZ$60 per hour for Level 3, with the plan tailored after a free trial lesson. There's no payment for the trial.
