The SAT is new ground for most UK students
UK schools don't teach towards the SAT, so even strong A-Level students meet unfamiliar question types, American vocabulary and a very different pace. That gap is quick to close with focused, one-to-one prep.
Many UK students apply through UCAS and to the US, Europe or Canada in the same year. We plan SAT prep so it doesn't crowd out mocks, A-Level coursework or the personal statement.
What to know
- Most A-Level Maths students already know the SAT Math content; the gain is in speed, accuracy and Desmos
- Reading & Writing tests US-style grammar and evidence questions that need dedicated practice
- Test centres are in major UK cities; book early as international seats are limited
- Applying to both? Our personal-statement and US-admissions support covers each system
Where your SAT score can take you
One strong score keeps universities open across the world. Prepare once, apply widely.
United States
Required again at many top colleges, including MIT, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Dartmouth, Brown and Penn, and widely used for merit scholarships.
United Kingdom
Accepted with AP scores from US-curriculum applicants at many universities, for example the University of Edinburgh.
Europe
Bocconi in Milan and IE University in Madrid accept the SAT in place of their own admissions tests.
Canada
The University of Toronto and McGill accept SAT scores from US-curriculum applicants; for most programmes they're optional.
Asia
NUS in Singapore and HKUST in Hong Kong list the SAT among their accepted admissions qualifications.
Australia
The University of Melbourne and ANU publish SAT entry scores for applicants with a US high school diploma.
India
Ashoka, Krea, FLAME, Plaksha and other private universities accept SAT scores for admission.
Middle East
NYU Abu Dhabi accepts the SAT as one of its testing options.
How the SAT is used varies: some universities take it in place of their own entrance test, others alongside APs or a US-style diploma. We'll help you check the exact requirements for each course on your list.

SAT tutoring questions
Do UK universities need the SAT?
Generally no. UK universities admit on A-Levels, the IB or equivalents. The SAT matters for US universities, and some UK universities accept it alongside AP scores for applicants on an American curriculum.
When should UK students take the SAT?
Most take it in Year 12, often in the spring or early summer, with a second attempt in the autumn of Year 13 before US early deadlines.
How much does an SAT tutor cost in the UK?
One-to-one online SAT lessons start from £40 per hour. The exact plan is set after a free trial lesson.
Is the SAT only useful for US universities?
No. It's essential for the US, but universities in the UK, Europe, Canada, Asia, Australia and India also accept it, for example the University of Edinburgh, Bocconi, IE University, NUS, HKUST, the University of Melbourne, ANU and Ashoka. How it's used varies: some take it in place of their own entrance test, others alongside APs or a US-style high school diploma. Always check the course's entry requirements.
What is the Digital SAT?
The SAT is now a digital, adaptive test taken on the College Board's Bluebook app. It has two sections, Reading & Writing and Math, each split into two modules. How you do on the first module decides the difficulty of the second. It takes 2 hours 14 minutes and is scored from 400 to 1600.
SAT or ACT: which should I take?
US colleges accept either equally. The SAT is shorter, adaptive and lets you use a calculator for all of Math; the ACT is linear and moves faster per question. We usually suggest one practice test of each, then committing to whichever gives the higher equivalent score.
When should I start preparing?
Ideally 10–12 weeks before your test date, with 2 lessons a week. Students aiming for 1500+ often start 4–5 months out. If your test is sooner, an 8-week sprint still moves scores.
How many times can I take the SAT?
As many times as you like. Many students take it twice or three times, and many colleges superscore, combining your best section scores across sittings. Check each college's policy.
How much can my score improve?
It depends on your starting point and how much time you have, so we won't promise a number. What we do promise is a measured plan: a diagnostic first, then regular full practice tests so you can see your progress. Our students have scored as high as 1580.
How do online SAT lessons work?
Lessons are live, private and one-to-one on a shared screen and digital whiteboard, with the same Bluebook-style questions you'll see on test day. We schedule in your local time zone.
